A nation of 13.6 million, Guatemala has a 70-percent literacy rate. Eighty local churches with 10,000 members make up The Methodist Church in Guatemala, where pastors and lay leaders are all volunteers and do not receive a salary. Although four languages are commonly spoken there, Spanish is the primary language for theological training and education.
