Fiber Optics Connectivity at UMECI

Africa
GIVE NOW

The initial planning and implementation of this network was put on hold in 2010 due to political instability in the country, and revived in 2012 after the situation calmed.

The infrastructure provides the basic technical facilities for distance online learning, Internet connection and web and mail services for the entire university. This enables UMECI to connect with other universities throughout Africa and in the U.S.

The original plan underwent some changes, which resulted in the entire campus being wired. This project also included training of local support staff on computer services, maintenance and management. The Methodist Global Education Fund for Leadership Development provided technical assistance in planning for technological fees, which will bring revenue to pay for the fiber optics connectivity.
